Dallas Lap Band, Best Lap Band Gastric Banding Surgery in Dallas, Texas

Adjustable Gastric Banding (Lap-Band) Surgery

Lap Band Surgery is a procedure designed to promote weight loss by restricting the size of the stomach to reduce the amount of food consumed. The surgeon places a silicone band around the top portion of the stomach, which can be made tighter or loosened after surgery as needed. In Dallas, lap band surgery is offered by the experienced surgeons at Surgical Weight Management Solutions.

Dallas LAP-BAND Procedure - LAP-BAND Gastric Banding Surgery Dallas Texas (DFW)

The LAP-BAND® System offers morbidly obese patients a safe, effective, and minimally invasive way to lose significant weight and regain control of their health and their lives. When performed in conjunction with a strong surgical weight loss support program, LAP-BAND® System weight loss surgery helps our Dallas Texas patients and our patients from around the world achieve a slim look they may have never believed was possible. The LAP-BAND® System procedure offers the advantage that it is fully reversible. We specialize in LAP-BAND® System weight loss surgery at our Surgical Weight Management Solutions Dallas Texas bariatric surgery practice because extensive research and our own experience have proven it to be one of the best ways for our patients to enjoy long-term success.

The "LAP" in "LAP-BAND®" comes from laparoscopic surgery, which is the surgical technique central to the LAP-BAND® System. The "BAND" is a silicone ring that can be adjusted with the addition or removal of saline solution. The first gastric band was patented in 1985 by a Swedish company, but it was not designed to be placed laparoscopically. The first laparoscopic gastric banding system, the LAP-BAND® System, was introduced in Europe in 1993. In 2001, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved LAP-BAND® System surgery for patients in the United States.

One of the biggest benefits of the LAP-BAND procedures is they are the only reversible surgical weight loss option. The band can be removed or adjusted, depending on the needs of the patient. The adjustments are made through a port in the stomach that is placed during the lap band surgery.

The surgery is done via laparoscope. The laparoscopic approach to lap band surgery offers benefits, such as a shorter recovery time and less pain following the procedure. During the procedure, a silicone band is placed around the top portion of the stomach. The result is a quicker feeling of fullness during meals and significant weight loss.

After the surgery, the lap band can be adjusted for changing needs. A patient who is not experiencing significant weight loss may choose to have the bands tightened. This flexibility often makes adjustable gastric banding a good choice for women planning pregnancy in the future. Fluid can be removed from the band to help ensure adequate nutrition for the baby. If needed, the band can be tightened after the pregnancy. These adjustments can be made in the office.

The results of any gastric surgery vary, according to the individual patient. The results of lap band surgery aren’t as dramatic or fast as in gastric bypass surgery, but significant weight loss is achieved over time. On average, our patients experience 36-40 percent excess weight loss at one year after the surgery. Between three and five years, the average is 60-65 percent excess weight loss.

Although adjustable gastric banding is the least risky type of weight loss surgery, no surgical procedure is risk free. The risks associated with lap band surgery include infection, erosion and the band slipping. There is also a small risk of damage to the stomach during the placement of the band.

The risks and benefits of lap band surgery are discussed in the free seminar offered by Surgical Weight Management Solutions. The seminars are held regularly in Dallas, Texas and are the best way to learn about the procedures and get your questions answered. Sign up for an upcoming seminar quickly on our website.

At Surgical Weight Management Solutions, we firmly believe in patient education. There is important information you need in order to make a decision to have weight loss surgery. One important factor to consider in the decision is dietary changes that will need to be made after the procedure. These include a liquid diet and modified liquid diet for several weeks after the LAP-BAND procedure. The diet and restrictions will be discussed in detail at the seminar, prior to making the decision to have the surgery.
